Top Zakir Musa Aide Among 6 Militants Killed in Pulwama Encounter; Protesters Clash With Security Forces

In a big win for security forces, six militants belonging to the Zakir Musa-led Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind outfit were killed in an encounter in J&K’s Pulwama district on Saturday morning.

One of the militants killed in the operation was identified as Soliha Mohammad, reportedly a top aide of militant Zakir Musa. Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind is a cell of Al-Qaeda operating in the Kashmir valley.

Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Arampora village in Awantipora area of the south Kashmir district following specific intelligence input about the presence of militants there

An official said that as the forces were conducting searches, militants fired upon them, triggering the encounter.

Soon after news of the encounter spread, clashes erupted between security forces and protesters near the site.
