Won't be part of Mahaghatbandhan: Naveen Patnaik

Stating that Biju Janata Dal (BJD) will be equidistant from both the BJP and the Congress party, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said that they will not be part of the Mahaghtabandhan consisting of anti-BJP parties. Patnaik clarified this a day after he said that needed some more time to think of his decision on being part of the Mahaghatbandhan.

Speaking to reporters, he clarified that he will not be part of any Front. Patnaik's comments assume significance at a time when there is speculation that the BJD might be inclined towards the anti-BJP front. In fact, Patnaik came down heavily on the Modi government for neglecting farmers while addressing a meeting today. 

However, political observers say that the BJD chief may change his mind as there is time for Lok Sabha polls. Earlier, there were signs of BJD supporting the Mahaghatbandhan as they opposed the Modi government publicly over Rafale deal. Additionally, the recent meeting of BJD MP with AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also led to speculation of BJD joining hands with the anti-BJP Front. 

With his latest statements, rumours are rife on whether Naveen Patnaik would align with the Federal Front that Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao is planning to create. Irrespective of the situation., Naveen Patnaik has played it smart without indicating about BJD's stand or support for any party.
