Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, MacKenzie, are divorcing.

The billionaire executive announced the news Wednesday in a tweet signed by both of them.

"We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends," the tweeted statement says.

Here's the full statement:

We want to make people aware of a development in our lives. As our family and close friends know, after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends. We feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and deeply grateful for every one of the years we have been married to each other. If we had known we would separate after 25 years, we would do it all again. We've had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures. Though the labels might be different, we remain a family, and we remain cherished friends.

The couple last year launched a charitable fund together, dubbed the Day One Fund. The statement Wednesday suggests they will continue to work together on that effort.

“We’ve had such a great life together as a married couple, and we also see wonderful futures ahead, as parents, friends, partners in ventures and projects, and as individuals pursuing ventures and adventures,” the tweet says.

MacKenzie Bezos, a 48-year-old novelist, is often cited in the Amazon origin story as having supported her husband’s move off of Wall Street and into e-commerce.

Shares of Amazon dipped slightly immediately following the announcement before paring those losses.

MacKenzie Bezos Might Become The Richest Woman On Earth

bd40b3f5a39a4dd6c385eeeb6824385b

Married in 1994 before Amazon was even founded, it is unknown whether he and his wife MacKenzie had a prenuptial agreement when they married in 1993. Bezos was already a hedge fund investor by this point in his life, so he may have had the foresight to create an agreement. However, prenuptial agreements were not a popular instrument in the early 1990s. They were popularized by celebrities in the 2000s, specifically Kanye West’s “Gold Digger.”

If they didn’t, MacKenzie Bezos could be entitled to up to 50% of Jeff Bezos’ assets. According to Forbes, he is worth $137 billion as of today. The Forbes list was published prior to Bezos’ estimated stock holdings took a massive upward turn over recent quarters.

Richer Than Walmart Heiress

Sam Walton’s daughter Alice is currently the richest woman on earth. Her net worth is around $46 billion, just behind her brother Jim. The four Walton children have frequently swapped places around the world’s rich list.

Alice’s net worth would be less than both Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Tuttle (her maiden name). Assuming Jeff’s assets were cut directly in half, they would share the 4th and 5thspots on the list. Importantly, there is a chance that the move might give her more of the communal property than her husband. This is to say: she could be richer than Jeff Bezos and effectively richer than most of the billionaires in the world.

Amazon stake is 777 billion $$ market.  Bezos is 140 billion $. No effect on stocks and infact we may foresee new stakes out of their 140 billion $
