One fact is Venkayya Naidu helped  by giving 1000 crores to Vijayawada and Guntur Underground Drainage and also with Smart cities, Housing schemes. 

 

Without that, it would have been even worse

Union Budget

The Union Budget proposals for 2018-19 make no mention of any allocation for the Metro Rail project in Visakhapatnam.

In the 2016-17 proposals, a meagre allocation of ₹1 lakh was made and it was justified on the grounds of opening the account for making subsequent allocations.

In the 2017-18 proposals, the Finance Minister said a separate Metro rail policy would be announced. “No funds have been allocated for the Metro Rail project in the budget,” Anakapalle MP Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao said when contacted.

After bifurcation a sense of euphoria prevailed with the assurance that all projects would be funded to the extent of 90 % with the grant of special category status.

CPI(M) district secretary K. Lokanadham termed not earmarking any funds for the Metro rail as deplorable.

Now, the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail is proposed to be taken up under public private partnership.

The Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation has extended the last date for receipt of expression of interest/request for proposal to February 23. The 42.35 km of Metro rail network on three corridors is estimated to cost ₹ 9,900 crore.
