I live in Chicagoland - the place with the coldest and harshest winds in winter that could make people SICK from even brief exposure - literally (worse than Michigan even though MI has much more crazy snow) Remote-start the car 5 minutes in advance to heat it up and melt any snow/hardened ice on it. Make sure my Lulu cat has food, water, litter and heat and lights are on so she can be comfortable until I return. Put on the jacket (and of course, clothes, shoes, etc). Put on the leather newsboy cap or baseball cap so my brain doesn't freeze. Put on the leather gloves so the skin on my fingers doesn't crack and the frozen steering wheel doesn’t bite my palms and fingers. Hug and kiss my Lulu cat (okay, more flying kisses before locking the door) Take a deep breath of room-temperature air in the house. Run to the car while making sure I don't skid and fall... Jump into the car. Close the door - immediately. Drive to work - very slowly - so I don't skid and hit other cars... Run heater on high before getting out. Take a deep breath of hot air. Get out of the car. Run to the door while making sure I don't skid and fall... Yay, I've SURVIVED!! Reverse some steps in Summer. I could rinse-n-repeat this all my life! I simply love SNOW. We live longer - and stronger - in cold weather. Another day in Paradise!! 😃 Edited March 6, 2019 by MobileMusic Quote

Living in a cold place is just a trade-off I can live with. PS: As you already know, if you place cooked rice in the hot sun it turns into charcoal. If you place it inside the refrigerator, it lasts longer than usual. I've some white relatives living all their life in Florida whose skin turned like a Rotisserie Chicken! I call them Copper-Tones 😃 Quote
