It is, at heart, a supersized suburban-style
office park, with a shopping mall
and a quasi-gated condo community
targeted at the 0.1 percent.

The towers flank the shopping mall,
with an interior by Elkus Manfredi.

Mr. Ross enlisted Norman Foster to do 50 Hudson
Yards
, just to the north, now under construction.

Collaborating with Kevin Roche John Dinkeloo &
Associates, KPF was also tapped to design 55 Hudson Yards.

At 800 feet tall, the smallest office
building on the site, with a facade of
transparent glass, it is cloaked in a
grid of curved steel window frames.

Next door, Mr. Ross called on David Childs and
Skidmore, Owings & Merrill to design 35
Hudson Yards
, a handsome, 1,000-foot-high
stack of shops, offices, a hotel and apartments.
(Mr. Ross plans to occupy the penthouse at 35.)

Then there’s 15 Hudson Yards, sleek and
cylindrical, with a shapely, rounded top, an
apartment tower with separate entrances for the
wealthy condo owners and the subsidized renters —

Which leaves the StairMaster-like Vessel, whose designer
is the English billionaire-whisperer, Thomas Heatherwick.
