Off-duty pilot stepped in to save Boeing 737 the day before the same plane crashed killing 189

According to Bloomberg, the same aircraft involved in the 2018 Lion Air tragedy nearly crashed a day prior but an off-duty pilot fixed a cockpit malfunction in time to steady the plane. Both those Lion Air flights were the same model — Boeing 737 Max 8 — as the plane involved in the Ethiopian Air crash earlier this month.
