Just weeks before an election in Israel, the US president Tweeted that the US will recognize Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights, a territory seized from Syria in 1967. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is up for re-election amid corruption charges, thanked Trump.
