Chill man...you don’t need any package tours...

Look for euRail 15 days tickets....if you have YMCA membership, it would be much more easier to find cheap accoldation and company...

Check some blogs, look for British or French students or Australian students...they are really good at back packing trips..take their suggestions..

Italy could be the best place to start to start the Eastern European then central...Croat,Hungarian,...mist and should if you are architectural lover , Prague,Czech..beer is awesome an here..and then towards the North to Germany..
