Dogs can breed twice a year with litters of 6 – 10 puppies. In just seven years, one unspayed female cat and her offspring can produce 420,000 kittens; one unspayed female dog and her offspring can produce 97,000 puppies. Do we really have that many friends even on Facebook? https://www.aspcapro.org/sites/default/files/petfix-top-10-reasons_0.pdf 6.5 million companion animals enter US animal shelters nationwide every year. More than half of them will not make it out alive (get euthanized/killed/put to permanent sleep mercilessly for NO fault of theirs). 70,000 dogs and cats are born in the US everyday. Only 1 out of every 10 dogs and 1 out of every 12 cats born will find a permanent home. Quote
