I have forgiven Congress, says Jaganmohan Reddy ...if Congress agrees on SS, I will join.

YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Friday sought to realign long-standing political equations when he said that he had forgiven Congress for the way the party has “treated” him in the past. Further, he indicated that he was not averse to joining hands with Congress if the party agrees to grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

“I don’t have any grievance against anybody... I strongly believe vengeance is not mine, it is for God to decide. I have forgiven them from my heart. As far as I am concerned, my state is my priority. Special category status is my priority,” Jagan told a TV channel.

 

Jagan had so far kept the united opposition at an arm’s length and not attacked the BJP camp, leading to allegations by TDP that he was supporting the saffron party. His latest statement on Congress is being read as him leaving room for a fresh manoeuvre.

 

The remarks are significant as Congress is already in an undeclared alliance with Jagan’s main rival, TDP, in Andhra. Also, Congress had fought assembly polls in Telangana last December in alliance with TDP. Andhra CM and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, who pulled out of the BJP-led NDA government, is siding with Congress after Rahul Gandhi promised to give special category status to the state.

 

Jagan had quit Congress and floated YSRCP in 2011 after his efforts to become CM failed following the death of his father Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in a chopper crash in 2009.

Reacting to Jagan’s remarks, Andhra Congress said, “He changed his mind due to Rahul’s stand on special category status. If Jagan is also committed to it, it is not too late for him to back Congress.”
