if one is coughing non stop for a day, see a doctor immediately. If you are taking any other medication, mention that as well. Sometimes, blood pressure medication with pneumonia can kill you. My friend had a heart failure in ICU due to pneumonia, but he got resuscitated immediately.

Flu --> non stop cough --> fluid in lungs --> pneumonia (bacterial or viral) --> prior medications --> death/heart failures.

That's how it goes.  Most of the time, doctors just give you some medication for your flu, without doing any tests.
