snoww Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 Water flowing in the canal from Yellampalli project to the Package 6 surge pool of Kaleshwaram project Hyderabad: Everything is progressing as planned for the first wet run of pumps at Package 6 of Kaleshwaram project with Irrigation Department officials saying on Monday that two days of underwater inspections of the seven draft tube gates have confirmed there were no leakages. It may be recalled that the Irrigation Department requisitioned the services of an expert team of divers from Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HZL) in Visakhapatnam for carrying out the inspections. With the underwater inspections completed, instructions were issued by senior officials to open the regulator gates further to fill up more of the surge pool that will enable the first wet run of the 124.5-megawatt high-powered pumps that will lift water to a height of 110 metres, making this one of the highest such lift systems in Asia. 2 more gates opened On Monday, two more gates were opened at Yellampalli reservoir to allow a flow of 1,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water into the canal that takes the water to the underground surge pool. Officials said the water level at Yellampalli was at 142.30 metres on Monday morning and the level at the surge pool will match this by Tuesday evening. Officials check on water flow in the canal from Yellampalli after lifting two more gates to speed up filling of Package 6 surge pool of Kaleshwaram project. As things stand today, everything is progressing as planned for the wet run of the first pump on April 24, the officials said. All the seven pumps of Package 6 are expected to be ready for commissioning by June 15. The surge pool, the largest man-made cavern in India with a depth of 375 metres with its breadth and length being 67 metres and 25 metres, is designed to withstand sudden rise in water levels even in the unforeseen event of a tripping of the pumps, according to officials. Critical component The Rs 4,961-crore Package 6 is a critical component of the entire Kaleshwaram project system with seven pumphouses with a combined capacity to lift 146.24 TMC ft of water with a discharge capacity of 634 cusecs. Water from the Package 6 pumphouses is taken to the Nandimedaram project, marking the halfway spot to the Mid-Manair project which is expected to provide irrigation to 37 lakh acres, including a new ayacut of 18 lakh acres. 1 Quote

Android_Halwa Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 I have a question here... From whichever point the water is being pumped from, considering this is peak summer and water table usually goes down completely in the Godavari, Do the river have enough water to lift? Or is it just basic trails that are going on? Quote
Android_Halwa Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 I mean... i know these are just trails but normally during which season do we lift water from Yellampally to mid-manair ? Is it the flood water or from Prnahita ? or Godavari stagnant water behind any barrage or surge pools ? Is it during the normal rainy season that we are gonna lift the water? Quote
Android_Halwa Posted April 22, 2019 Report Posted April 22, 2019 Unfortunately there is not enough information on this project functioning apart from basic details... May be one should file a RTI... Quote
