Hyderabad: An express bus of TSRTC which was stolen from the Central Bus Station here in the city was traced to Nanded outskirts in Maharashtra late on Thursday evening. However, those who stole the bus and drove away had completely dismantled the vehicle but for the wheels.

The miscreants apparently used two gas cutters to dismantled the bus body. No arrests were made in connection with the case yet.

“They cut the bus body using gas cutters and except tyres, rest of the vehicle was dismantled. The teams are yet to inspect the vehicle completely,” an official said.

The special teams which reached Nanded in search of the stolen bus recovered it but stripped of the body at an secluded place, with the help of local police.

The express bus belonging to Kushaiguda depot which was parked at the CBS was stolen in the wee hours of Wednesday. After parking the bus in the station, the driver and conductor went and slept in the rest room on Tuesday and woke up next morning to find the bus missing.

Special teams were formed to trace the bus. Based on the surveillance camera footage examination, the bus was spotted heading towards Nanded in Maharashtra. Police teams from the Sultan Bazaar division immediately rushed to Nanded and the senior officials here were constantly in touch with their counterparts in Nanded.

Earlier on its part, the TSRTC has alerted the officials at all the toll plazas and the highway patrol teams over the stolen bus. They were asked to remain alert and keep a strict vigil.

‘Security should be tightened in all bus stations’

State Transport Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy on Thursday instructed the officials to tighten the security in all the bus stations in city limit and also across the State.

The Minister conducted a meeting with officials of Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) regarding an express bus of the TSRTC parked at the Central Bus Station (CBS) being stolen early on Wednesday.

Reddy said lack of security was the main reason for the theft of the bus from the CBS and security should be provided in all the bus stations. Appropriate action would be taken against those who failed to provide the security in the bus station, he said.

TSRTC Ravinder, Executive Director (Administration), C Vinod Kumar, Executive Director (Greater Hyderabad Zone), regional managers of Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions were present at the meeting.
