He is a mouth cancer survivor. 

Sharad Rao Pawar is a tobacco and betel nut user from a very early age and he did it for almost 50 years and eventually, cancer caught up with him at the later phase of life. Apparently, Sharad Pawar has undergone quite a few surgeries to date to check cancer.
