In telugu, we say these:

రాత్రిన్ పగలు = రాత్రింబగులు

కప్పలు పట్టుకొనె = కప్పలు బట్టుకునె

చేపల్ తినె   = చేపల్దినె

This phenomenon is called saralaadesha sandhi. These sandhi names don't explain anything, except our 'stupid' telugu teachers claims that they do. At most, sandhi names classify, or do appeal to analogies.

Whatever we are doing across word boundaries (రాత్రిన్ పగలు; కప్పలు పట్టుకొనె), that's what tamils are doing across syllable boundaries (ven kat$ > vengad, for instance: వెన్ కట్ = వెంగట్/వెంగడ్). This syllable business is useful to come grips with English pronunciation, since the way English words are syllabified is different from what we are used to in any Indian language.

This is very common:

చదువు > సదువు
చెప్పు > సెప్పు (both noun and verb)
చంకనాకు > సంకనాకు

Even in English, "question" is usually pronounced as "quesshun" (ch > sh).
