Degree is a trap, IMO. Jana Chaitanya, Other financiers in Vij, Guntur are multi millionaires without a basic college degree. When you have passion to do something life will have its way to teach

It is easy to preach others. Why desis came to USA? Even desis in India want to send their kids to concept schools, techno schools? Why desis in USA want to buy homes in certain zip codes, but not others?

Better education should be the purpose of a degree, not necessarily a higher paying job ani @tacobell fan uncle uddesam.

My point of view is totally different. Out of 100 students how many of them really know what they are studying? If your kid says he will study fine arts or culinary skills no desi parent will enroll them. Why? end of the day they think their kids make more money.

I have a trademark, what does it mean? If you don’t make money can you do a patent? Indirectly it is linked to money. Way of admitting is different from person to person.

Not necessarily man, for instance some PIs patent and give it to companies which means that every lab in the world has to buy it from the company and cannot collaborate with the PI and share the antibodies. However some PIs patent the antibodies but don't sell it to companies, which means other people can use their hybridoma and make that antibody. It depends on the individual. Although selling patents to companies will give you some money, you will loose your ability to collaborate by sharing your product with other research groups. So, no. Not all patents are linked with money.

I thought we are not talking to specific set of people, right? If people are so generous about having a parent to share free world, why would they go to courts when someone violate? Owning a patent means they will get their name out there, right?

True, but as I said it's specific to the case. In case of Jennifer Doudna and Feng Zhang and the case between Berkeley and MIT is more because of the ambiguity in the patent than anything... Jennifer Doudna showed CRISPR in bacteria and Feng Zhang showed CRISPR in human cell line. That's why the case is a big deal. Of course there is a lot of competition in science, but science can move forward collectively more than anything. My PI's PI always insisted on not selling patents to companies but rather collaborating, doesn't mean that he is not popular. In fact, he ended up winning the Nobel prize in 2011, but never sold a patent to a company.

work = money antunnav .. that is not true for everyone .. especially not for those that are into research and ph.d's .. yes, they want money to live .. kani 10-20% extra money ochina ph.d's and post docs ni adugu what they prefer in, do they like to go to industry or stay in research fileds ? nenu 3yrs ph.d's tho unna .. their mentality is completely different .. bcos alaa mould aipothaaru vaallu .. thanks to the researchers really for so much of advancement that we are seeing everyday

take a simple example, money unna kuda y do u think professors keeps doing research ? nenu master's chesina Univ lo ne 70yrs profs unde vaallu .. always searching for something .. applying for grants to continue with their research

If you want an MBA, which can transform your life completely, it is Harvard/Stanford (first tier), next Wharton. After that, people focus on these schools: UChicago Booth, NorthWestern Kellogg, Columbia, MIT Sloan. Once you go down this list, just focus on saving tuition fees, living expenses.

If you are into IT, and you got into Booth, and if McKinsey hires you, that's a great transformation. Usually, McKinsey doesn't hire as many people from Booth, Kellog as from H/S. At Harvard/Stanford, people reject McKinsey, and they want to work in some private equity (KKR, Black stone).

Don't pin too many hopes on your MBA degree. You need to struggle to find a job yourself. This is why many universities have started exec-MBA programs everywhere (Cornell MBA in the bay area) to take away money from your savings. Exec-MBA is a cash cow for many schools now.

I saw a couple of guys moving from MBA program to MS, for sake of STEM OPT. MBA = no stem OPT.

What is he trying to achieve here? If he is already working in USA, better join some exec MBA program if his employer sponsors it. Otherwise, any business school would do.
