Gita has to answer a question: if Atman does not exist (since, Atman can't function as a causal agent), what gets reborn when someone dies?  Lets look at the way illiterate people in villages think (I think, these illiterates are smarter): in the last life, 'X was born as a dog', or 'X was a tree' or 'X was born as a princes' (Whole puranas are full of such stories). X in this life is a particular human being; X in the last life was a dog: what persists across these two life times? or what persists across n life times?  Can one postulate some 'invisible' entity that persists across these life times? That's what at least some group of people thought: that's where we see the concept of "pudgala", some invisible entity that persists across time, space and lifetimes. 

But Gita doesn't talk about pudgala. What happens to your car in another 100 years? Even if every part of car gets replaced in another 50 years, will it be the same car, or a new car. People who take DMT go crazy, why? spiritual effect...unless their spirit guides them they can't take that step...after that they realize about life...Same with ayahausca...I also believe 99% people who take MJ, DMT, Ayahausca do it unconsciously
