We just have different life styles gold and diamonds gives her a kick and traveling around and knowing new things, adventure and seeing places giev me a kick. Happiness/success meaning is different for different people. Comparison doesn't make any sense its all in our mind. Competitive spirit is good though it helps to grow in some aspects like career.

It is 'natural' to be jealousy. Just don't transform it into hate, leading to mass shootings. 

Usually, we are not jealous of people who are out of our range. Hardly do we get jealous of Ambani, Gates, Buffet. We don't get jealous of some illegal Mexican cook working  at Amaravati Restaurant, Irving. Nor do we get jealous of some guy who couldn't make it to America yet not successful in any business in India. 

As you get older, you tend to be less jealous in some interactions. It is like a retired race horse, who can't compete with younguns. What is there to compete at the age of 65, when you are suffering from arthritis, diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, etc. 

Besides all the above, it is good to look at the emergence of jealousy, which falls under అరిషడ్వర్గ. అరిషడ్వర్గ = అరి (enemy) + షడ్వర్గ (six groups). These enemies are born out of attachment: dhyayato visayan pumsah sangas tesupajayate

Once this అరి (enemy) is conquered, enlightenment (ఙ్నానోదయ) is achieved. We can't even say that "Mr X has achieved ఙ్నానోదయ", since the end result of ఙ్నానోదయ is that there is no agency, like "I", "You", etc. In other words, there is no 'self'. In which case, where is the development of 'self'? Of course, yandamuri and others sell third-rate ill-digested psychology from the West in telugu words.
