This morning, Google restricted Huawei's access to its Android operating system. How much of an impact will this have on the Chinese tech giant's ambitions to become the top player in smartphones globally?

America think that he can stop china by putting sanctions on china as well they did to Iran dont worry China Pakistan your iron brother is with you and one day america will be sorry in front of the whole world for making them fools #ripamerica

think it's better for americans to have open trade with china, despite all the tariffs and restrictions against china and their products they have been exponentially exploding in terms of infrastructure, technology, and wealth. It's better to be friends with your competitor and where else is america going to dump all their trash and free labor. Everyday china gets stronger and america is getting weaker with their greed, stealing money from education and reducing tax for the rich. Just drive through american cities and you will find construction sites that have been going on for years and potholes uncovered.

This is a major impact for Huawei for next year or two. They will develop their own operating system for their phones. Their bigger problem is a lot of the hardware for their phones comes from US suppliers. If US suppliers stop providing these key components, Huawei's smartphone manufacturing will grind to a halt.

this is dirty, Android is an open source software, Google does not charge the customers but has been making billions of dollars from cellphone manufactures and these manufacturers contributed tech and finance to the Android system until today, and suddenly now this? talking about credibility and business ethics. I thought the American believe the free market economy and the government doesn't interfere with private company business, they said the only communist country does it. this just shows how dirty and fake these American rednecks are. using paper dollars in exchange for other Asian countries hard working goods and still yelling it is not fair? shameless!

It would be ironic if this concerted effort to minimize Huawei's influence in the smartphone market backfires and instead leads to Google Androids obsolescence and demise in the world markets. Can anybody say blow-back? Ive been wanting one of their new Mate20 phones, even if they can not warranty them here in the US. I think they are being blacklisted because the US Intel and Law Enforcement community does NOT have a back door into their phones, and for no other reason. Can't let them lead the world of smartphone sales with such unthinkable secure tech. haha.

Welp. That sucks. Personally I stay away from Chinese phones. It’s bad enough that my own government and US companies spy on me. I don’t need to add the Chinese to that list. Lol.

The US should compete on innovation, costs and market, not by sanctions and geopolitics. And we all know Google, NSA etc. spy and collect as much data as anybody. So to users same difference.

Just to point out to people not reading the article or not informed on the subject, this is not by choice for Google they HAVE to comply to what trump's administration has set

If google restricts Huawei's access, that could mean it will restrict everyone's access because Android is basically open source
