Pro equipment is not for everyone. Individuals do not need or buy such premium stuff. Companies, studios, design firms, etc. do not mind paying much more than that for such equipment because they extract more ROI from it. It could display 6 monitors side by side sharing the same content continuously with 120 million pixels, play 1000 audio and 1000 instrument tracks simultaneously in a DAW app like Logic Pro. Xeon with 28 cores up to 1.5 TB of RAM, 3 streams of 8K ProRes video, 16 streams of 4K ProRes video, Pro Display XDR 6K Retina - any takers?

Check out the full specs and watch their WWDC keynote. Pro computers in the market do not meet all the requirements of a Pro computer but cost over $8300. Mac Pro is the only one that meets all the requirements of a Pro at a lower cost than those incomplete Pros. I spent $5400 on a Dell Inspiron laptop in 2000 with Windows 98 and just a 25 GB hard drive that lost all its value within 2 years 

iPad Pro (or iPhone X) is not for everyone and most people would need just a regular iPad or iPhone. With support for mouse, external storage, etc. in iPadOS 13, iPads are going to prove cheaper (with 10-hour battery) than laptops for some people for their workflows.

Hotels, airlines do not survive because of individuals traveling on personal tourism trips - they survive because of business travels.
