HADBOURN, N.C. (WNCN) - A Cary man and his 2-year-old daughter died in a traffic collision with a tanker truck in Columbus County on Thursday, WWAY reports

Monika Deshmukh, 36, of Cary was driving a Ford Focus around 1:30 p.m. when she ran a stop sign at the ramp from Highway 74 to Highway 410, the Highway Patrol told WWAY.

The Ford Focus collided with a tanker truck hauling fuel. The driver of the truck wasn’t injured and is not at fault.

Monika's husband, 37-year-old Mukesh Deshmukh, died at the scene.

Their 2-year-old daughter, Divija, was airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington. She was later transported to a hospital in Chapel Hill where the child died, the Highway Patrol said.

Friends say Monika is still at UNC Hospital and is not out of the woods yet, but is in stable condition.

The Deshmukh family was traveling to the beach to celebrate Divija’s birthday, the Highway Patrol said. The little girl was set to turn 3 years old Friday.

“I was very sad listening to this because they were going to Myrtle Beach to celebrate their kids birthday,” said Partha Mukheljw, the family’s neighbor. “We are very worried about them because they’re from India and we’re trying to figure out how we can help them."

The family lived in Cary, but was originally from India. Partha Mukheljw lives in the apartment across the way.

“They’re very nice people and their kid is really good I used to play with her and I cried a lot in the morning when I heard the news," said Mukheljw.

Mukheljw was so emotional he had to step away from the interview.

“Help them,” cried Mukheljw.

As a father of young daughters, the news has been hard for Mukheljw to accept.

“She was good," the neighbor told CBS 17. "She was very bubbly and she used to like to play with my daughters.”

Friends say the father worked for Wipro, a global IT firm headquartered in India. Right now family members are trying to get to North Carolina from India.

Let's be frank.

Desi IT company lo panichestu he wont earn even half of what most DB people earn here.

Don't think he will have 50k bank balance, this is a tragic loss to the family,

if you cant help don't do it, no one's forcing you.

Let's accept the fact that this is a genuine case that deserves support - doesn't matter if its physical, emotional or financial.

sorry
