This Indian American Family Meets with Tragedy on Their 2-year-old Daughter’s Birthday

It’s a time for the Indian American community. It has not yet been a week since the tragic drowning of 32-year-old Avinash Kuna in New Jersey during his birthday celebration that an Indian American family met with a deadly road accident resulting in two tragic deaths on Thursday, June 6.

The North Carolina-based Indian American family was in a jubilant mood when they kick started a road trip from Cary to Myrtle Beach, on their 2-year-old daughter’s birthday celebration. But, Fate had something sinister in store for them. The joyride turned into a catastrophe, and the birthday celebration ended up being a doom. 

The girl’s mother, Monika Deshmukh was driving the car. Earlier it was reported that a tanker truck carrying fuel rushing from the opposite direction, collided with the car and set it ablaze. 

But, the latest investigative reports contradict the initial reports and state that Monika Deshmukh failed to stop at the intersection of US74 and NC410 while driving Sedan and rammed the car into a tanker truck filled with fuel and caught fire near Chadbourn in Columbus County. Some passersby, at the scene, doused the fire using fire extinguishers and managed to get Monika out of the inflamed car. 

37-year-old Mukesh Deshmukh, who hails from Maharashtra, and the toddler were declared dead when they were brought to a nearby hospital. Monika Deshmukh, who survived the crash with critical injuries, was hospitalized. She is out of danger now. The tanker driver was hospitalized, too and released after a treatment. 

A GoFundMe campaign was set up to raise a fund for financial assistance to the surviving member of the family. But, the campaign was closed after it reached a milestone of $146,000.

Do read the DMV manual on driving to learn road rules. It is very informative has a lot of helpful info.

Read your car owner’s manual.

Pay and learn driving from a pro instructor..

No eating, drinking, talking, texting or intoxication while driving. If you must eat, pull over, Spilling hot coffee on your lap will burn the skin and result in an accident.

If you feel sleepy “on the wheel”, pull over and take a nap. If you see a driver on the highway with sleepy closed eyes, HONK!!

If carrying pets, restrain them in carriers/cages. A loose cat could go under your break pedal (like a water bottle) and prevent you from applying breaks/stopping.
