Prince_Fan Posted June 19, 2019 Report Posted June 19, 2019 I have been waiting for this time for years!! People who came here to do MS will be able to relate more to this. When any middle class average Indian student comes to a US university for pursuing master's, typically they are in a desperate need of a Teaching Assistantship or a Research Assistantship so that they can get a full/partial waiver of tuition fee..which can be a huge relief and a game changer for one's career and financial peace. One desperately knocks on doors, works hard, talks to seniors to avail any slightest opportunity to get one. I, along with many others found ourselves also in desperate need at that time and I remember the attitude and the cold shoulder I got from our own folks from a few "special states" in India(you know which states I am talking about!) . Before coming to US, I was under the impression that we are all Indians and are happy seeing and meeting our own kind in this country. I used to walk up to any fellow countryman cheerfully and talk to them as if they are my family members...big mistake!! Most of these people will not even entertain a hello, let alone hello..they will first ask you..where are you from..and I had a standard answer - I am from INDIA! Well that's not what they were looking for, they wanted to know exactly which region in India I was from and the treatment that followed depended upon that. Well, back to the agenda - These people will HOG RA/TA positions in the departments semester after semester for years and only refer people from their own state to be the next RA/TA when they leave. If you dare ask them for a referral, they won't even talk to you, return your email or even say NO courteously. Now I have 7-8 positions in my team for which I have to hire urgently and I can bring people on Visa/OPT as well. Guess which resumes are not getting through?? Yeah you got it right..the moment I see any resume from these suckers - it goes directly into trash!! I will make sure that I will not entertain any of these suckers!! SWEET PAYBACK TIME!! Quote
