One desperately knocks on doors, works hard, talks to seniors to avail any slightest opportunity to get one. Before coming to US, I was under the impression that we are all Indians and are happy seeing and meeting our own kind in this country. I used to walk up to any fellow countryman cheerfully and talk to them as if they are my family members...big mistake!! Most of these people will not even entertain a hello, let alone hello..they will first ask you..where are you from..and I had a standard answer - I am from INDIA! Well that's not what they were looking for, they wanted to know exactly which region in India I was from and the treatment that followed depended upon that. 
Well, back to the agenda - These people will HOG RA/TA positions in the departments semester after semester for years and only refer people from their own state to be the next RA/TA when they leave. If you dare ask them for a referral, they won't even talk to you, return your email or even say NO courteously. 
Now I have 7-8 positions in my team for which I have to hire urgently and I can bring people on Visa/OPT as well. Guess which resumes are not getting through?? Yeah you got it right..the moment I see any resume from these suckers - it goes directly into trash!! I will make sure that I will not entertain any of these suckers!! SWEET PAYBACK TIME!!
