hotlantian Posted June 21, 2019 Report Posted June 21, 2019 My wife has a thyroid nodule and result came as suspicious. Surgeon recommended a surgery but not sure if insurance is covered or not. Is it better to get it removed in India for lower price? Quote

Was the diagnosis based on FNAC test, if so what category did they assign to the nodule? Quote

Not sure what "Nodule A" category translates to. I'm aware of Bethesda categorization of nodules but the one you mentioned is probably different. Surgery: Coverage depends on your insurance. The surgery costs in India are not cheaper either. For minimally invasive surgery, you can expect anywhere around INR 2 lakhs. For the traditional surgery, the costs are around INR 50 thousand. Quote

Does doctor suggested to remove nodule alone or total thyroid gland?in India it cost from 1lakh to 1.5 lakh depend upon hospital and room you take.If it is cancerous it's better to do surgery by a oncologist than a general surgeon. In basavatharakam it cost at 1 lakh and vijayawada manipal general ward cost around 80k for thyroid surgery Quote

They might do frozen section to find cancerous or not while doing surgery.normal way is they will remove nodule alone and they send that nodule to pathology and if report came positive they will reopen and remove total thyroid.
