its the first city in India to have one, way back in 2005 itself.

desalination is being opposed on the grounds of hitting fishermen livelihood.

The solution to the crisis is not to get more water from neighbouring states, or from the sea.

but to save water.

they still have swimming pools in all star hotels from corporation water. that's the level of seriousness with which chennai corporation is approaching this.

Indians take too much for granted. especially water, because India is very well rain fed compared to most other countries. water conservation doesn't come naturally.

you call yourself a leftist, and you are okay with an idiot calling for karnataka to use entire kaveri water, and TN to replace their water needs with sea water?

do I have to explain the consequences of such actions

1. kaveri will further dry up since it is being diverted into interior karnataka

2. karnataka will also have to try desalination

3. every state in India will try it, adding to the slurry in all oceans around India

4. fish population disappears in the sea

5. climate change.

6. starvation.

unfortunately there are no simpler solutions to this. perhaps running headlong into a wall is the only option humanity has. It just irritates me that those who suggest that are so smug about solving all problems, when they are obviously creating new more complicated ones with every iteration of their solutions.
