You got to admit that the legendary power-hitter is way past his heydays and is not the phenomenal finisher of the game he used to be, anymore. Another example of the same came during India’s clash with Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. Dhoni scored just 28 runs off 52 balls, failing to make an impact with his bat, before getting stumped by Rashid Khan. His partnership with Kedar Jadhav did not work out according to the veteran’s plan as both of them used up a huge number of deliveries but couldn’t fuel the run rate in the death overs. While Mahi was slammed by many, the latest words of accusation came from ‘Master Blaster’ Sachin Tendulkar. According to News18, Sachin clearly expressed his disappointment over Dhoni’s time on the crease with Kedar Jadhav and highlighted that the players were unable to play with positive intent. “I felt slightly disappointed, it could have been much better. I was also not happy with the partnership between Kedar and Dhoni, it was very slow. We batted 34 overs of spin bowling and scored 119 runs. This was one area where we didn’t look comfortable at all. There was no positive intent.” The iconic batsman added that Dhoni being the seniormost cricketer, should have taken the responsibility of firing up the scoreboard into his own hands. “A senior player Dhoni should have taken charge as Jadhav’s batting was hardly tested in the tournament. “Kedar Jadhav was under pressure, he had not had an outing up until now. He needed someone to take charge of the situation early on but that did not happen. Both Kedar and Dhoni were not able to play at the required strike rate that they would have wanted.” However, Sachin’s comments did not go down well with the die-hard Dhoni fans who came down harsh on him. While some termed Sachin as a ‘selfish’ player, the others claimed that he won the World Cup because of MS Dhoni.
