We're here in Miami for the first of the 2020 Democratic debates #DemDebate   Home to nearly 3 million people in the key swing state of Florida, Miami-Dade County is also one of the places most exposed to global climate change in the country

Last year, Hurricane Michael killed more than 30 people and caused more than $6 billion in damage in Florida—a toll compounded by warmer, higher seas and wetter air

For Florida cities and counties, as climate change worsens, home values could suffer as a result of the risks of cyclones and flooding. This could in turn hurt property-tax revenue that governments rely on

Barring a stupendous reversal in greenhouse gas emissions, the rising Atlantic will cover much of Miami by the end of this century. But global warming also poses a more immediate danger: The city's aquifer is at risk of contamination
