mmharshaa Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 With 40 matches done and dusted in World Cup 2019 so far, Australia and India have sealed their semifinal spot with five teams out of contention. Three teams will be competing to grab the two final spots - England, New Zealand and Pakistan. England plays New Zealand in Chester-le-Street on Wednesday and Pakistan take on Bangladesh at Lord's on Friday. Here's what each team needs to do to go through: New Zealand(Points 11; NRR +0.572) Ideal scenario: Beat England and get to 13 points and qualify. Outside possibility: If they lose to England on Wednesday and Pakistan beat Bangladesh, then both New Zealand and Pakistan will finish on 11 points each and net run rate (NRR) will decide who advance. For New Zealand's NRR to stay ahead of Pakistan, they should get close to England's total by about 212 runs (assuming England score 300) and hope either Pakistan lose to Bangladesh or not beat them by the same or higher margin. Elimination: New Zealand losing to England by about 212 runs after conceding 300 and Pakistan then defeating Bangladesh by the same or higher margin. England (Points 10; NRR +1.000) Ideal scenario: Beat New Zealand, get to 12 points and they will finish third in the points table. Outside possibility: If they lose to New Zealand, they have to hope Bangladesh doesn't lose to Pakistan on Friday. If Bangladesh beat Pakistan, Pakistan will end on nine points, one point behind that of England's ten. If that match ends in a stalemate (tie/ no-result/ abandonment), then both Pakistan and England will finish with ten points each and England will advance by virtue of more number of outright wins (five to Pakistan's four). Elimination: If they lose to New Zealand and Pakistan beat Bangladesh, England stand eliminated. Pakistan(Points 9; NRR -0.792) Ideal scenario: New Zealand beat England and Pakistan win their final league game against Bangladesh. Outside possibility: New Zealand loses to England by about 212 runs after conceding 300 and then beat Bangladesh by the same or higher margin. Elimination: If they lose to Bangladesh on Friday, Pakistan stand eliminated. Quote
r2d2 Posted July 2, 2019 Report Posted July 2, 2019 In the event of teams finishing on equal points * The team with the most wins in the League Stage will be placed in the higher position. * If there are teams with equal points and equal wins in the League Stage then in such case the teams will be ordered according to their net run rate in the League Stage matches. * If there are teams that are still equal, they will be ordered according to the result(s) of the head to head match(es) played between them (points, then if still equal, net run rate in those matches). * If the above does not resolve the League Stage ordering and there are teams that are still equal, the teams will be ordered as per their League Stage seedings. * If all matches in the League Stage produce no results the teams will be ordered as per their League Stage seedings and the top 4 seeded teams will progress to Semi-Finals.
