'Father of computer science' Alan Turing is the new face of the £50 note

The pioneering mathematician who is well-known for cracking the Enigma code during the Second World War will be the face of the Bank of England note, which is expected to enter circulation by the end of 2021. In 2013, Turing was given a royal pardon for a conviction he received in the 1950s for his relationship with a man – which was illegal at the time. He died from cyanide poisoning in 1954, and an inquest ruled the cause of his death was by suicide.
