Our tale begins in Japan, for samurai appear to be the in-thing in Telugu and Tamil movies (Mirai being a recent example). We are told about the noble samurai and their war with the more numerous Yakuza. Most of the samurai were hunted down by their foes. One grizzled teacher, as he lay dying, told his Yakuza killer that his one student was coming for them. And no surprise there, for the said student was none other than Ojas Gambheera, the young son of an Indian immigrant.

We later learn that he went roughshod over the Yakuza, avenging the murders of samurais. When a young man comes under the wing of one Satya Dada (Prakash Raj), a powerful man who is involved in all sorts of illegal or legal activities, still, he seems like a good man, and after a while, OG becomes a third son to him.

Then we swish to a port in Mumbai that is owned by Satya Dada. A group of hooligans led by Jimmy (Sudev Nair, last seen in Kammattam) storm his port. Jimmy and his bigshot politician father Mirajkar work for a syndicate that is trying to smuggle large quantities of RDX into India (for some nefarious reasons). Jimmy kills the man who is intercepting the container, and he turns out to be the son of Satya Dada.

Now, Jimmy is reckless, but Mirajkar understands the gravity of the situation. He tells Mirajkar (again, like Tarasov from John Wick) that Satya Dada’s right hand, OG, may be the most dangerous man in the world. And although they may be estranged right now (more on that later), hearing that his son died will send him on a path to vengeance. And that is exactly what happens.

Mirajkar tries to salvage the situation. At the funeral of the dead man, he forces his son to suffer a beating by the man’s wife (and Satya Dada’s daughter-in-law). Jimmy is furious and still does not comprehend that he is dealing with somebody who is way above his pay grade. Satya Dada tells Mirajkar that this beating was just because he had reason to believe Jimmy was involved. But if he is found guilty, there will be hell to pay. He reminds Mirajkar about what happened when they crossed Satya Dada earlier. So many years ago, when Mirajkar was a two-bit street goon, he wronged Satya.

In response, Satya sicced OG on him. OG cut through a veritable army with his katana. There is a scene (in fact, there are many such scenes) when it seems his victims could have used a firearm any time, for OG almost exclusively uses a katana. But they don’t, until it’s too late. So anyway, OG slaughtered Mirajkar’s army to a man with ease and then forced Mirajkar to plead for his life. This is why Mirajkar fears him.

Why were OG and Satya Dada estranged?

So this is a bit of a long story. The elder son of Satya Dada, who is now dead, was something of a criminal. Well, even more criminal than his father. He began smuggling without permission from his father, and while collaborating with Mirajkar and Jimmy, his father’s foes. It came to the point that he was ready to murder his father. Satya had discovered his shenanigans and was not exactly pleased with him. His son even got his young son, Arjun (Arjun Das), is involved. Once, when the kid was giving a pistol to his father, it accidentally went off and killed his father.

OG was there for a reason, and he must have handled the corpse, for he had blood on his hands. The kid promptly accused him of killing his father. I am not certain Satya Dada believed the boy, but OG still went away from Mumbai. He had fallen in love with a woman and even had a baby girl with her. For a decade, Satya Raj did not have any contact with his surrogate father.

One day, Satya Dada encounters OG’s wife, Kanmani, at a hospital (for she is a doctor) and is happy to see her and her daughter, Tara. However, Jimmy is out to avenge the beating given to him and to also find out where the RDX container is. He and his heavily armed men attack the hospital and casually kill many innocents, including women and children. While Satya Dada escapes, Kanmani is shot dead. We are initially led to believe it was Jimmy, but it was actually Omi Bhau.

Satya Dada is chased by Jimmy and his men, and he takes refuge in a field. However, Jimmy follows. But then OG is there. He knows about the murder of his wife and is like a man possessed. And just like it always happens, he is unstoppable and eventually kills and beheads Jimmy.

Played by Emraan Hashmi, Omi works in the same syndicate and lives abroad. He is the son of Mirajkar and pretty ruthless. He performs the funeral rites for his brother. Now, like Jimmy, he too wants revenge, but his superiors in the syndicate also want their RDX back. He is cleverer than Jimmy and figures out that the container is hiding in plain sight. He goes to the port and finds out that the new floor plan features two underground chambers. But an older floor plan has three subterranean chambers. And indeed, he is right. He steals the RDX back and plants it at multiple locations in the city. He has a corrupt cop called Tawde (Abhimanyu Singh, the Baba Bajrangi of L2: Empuraan) working for him.

This not only achieves the syndicate’s original goal, but it also lets him off the hook. Now, he is free to pursue his vengeance quest against OG. He has a trump card in Arjun. Remember the kid who killed his father by mistake and put the blame on OG? He has grown up into a particularly surly young man. He, too, pines for revenge against OG (he does not remember that he himself killed his father because of mental trauma?). He kidnaps Tara with the help of Omi’s men. He also tries to kill OG by getting his vehicle as he is chasing the abductors of his father rammed into by a truck, but the man survives. Arjun’s mother tells Arjun (or reminds him) of the truth as to who really killed his father

So OG, since he is OG, recovers suspiciously quickly from injuries that nearly killed him, to once again chase down the abductors of Tara. He gets a tip from now repentant Arjun as to their location. But Omi is waiting for him. Tawde has a pistol to the little girl’s forehead. OG arrives at the place with a few of his own men, and a chaotic battle ensues. At one point, OG parries the bullets using his katana like in the Ghost of Tsushima video game.

Meanwhile, an old Japanese member of the Yakuza visits Omi’s associate and tells his story. It is now that he tells about how OG went nuts on the Yakuza after they killed most of the samurai. He and the surviving samurai went after them and ended the entire concept of the Yakuza.

As OG confronts Omi, the latter slips in that it was he who killed Kanmani, for he too was present at the hospital massacre. This enrages an already enraged OG, and they engage in a duel. But OG is outnumbered. Then the samurai arrive to lend aid to OG, their new master (probably). Eventually, OG kills Omi by strapping him to his own RDX, avenging the murder of his wife. As he dies, Omi promises revenge. From the great beyond? How, dude? The final voiceover promises more to come. So a sequel?
