Manmadhudu 2 Fails To Break Tollywood's Sequel Jinx

Amidst high expectations, Nagarjuna's Manmadhudu 2 released yesterday. However, fans' enthusiasm was watered down with the first show itself. While fans were expecting a clean and hilarious family entertainer, they got to witness a lackluster romance drama filled with adult content.

Even though Manmadhudu 2 collected a decent worldwide share of Rs 5 crores on its opening day, the average word of mouth and mixed reviews are impacting the collections on Saturday. Many fans are of the opinion that Nagarjuna's first mistake was to name Manmadhudu 2 after his iconic 2002 film, Manmadhudu. 

With Manmadhudu 2 failing to create fireworks at the box office, it has been reiterated that sequels are injurious to Tollywood. Going by Tollywood's track record over the past decade or so, it's clear that Manmadhudu 2 has once again proved that the sequel jinx is yet to be broken.

Shankardada Zindabad, Sardar Gabbar Singh, Kick 2, Satya 2, Gaayam 2, Avunu 2 and Raju Gari Gadhi 2 were some of the high profile sequels that released amidst huge expectations and tanked at the box office. Only Baahubali 2 had managed to surpass the expectations and box office collections compared to its predecessor, Baahubali The Beginning.
