NenuEvaru Posted August 19, 2019 Report Posted August 19, 2019 With very poor and low inflows into the Sriramsagar Project (SRSP), its balancing reservoirs — Mid Manair Dam (MMD) and Lower Manair Dam (LMD) — in erstwhile Karimnagar district remain parched and did not receive any inflows during this rainy season. However, the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project had come as a ray of hope for the MMD and LMD reservoirs and rekindled hopes among the farmers of the ayacut of the reservoirs. As the Sripada Yellampalli project received copious inflows into the project during this season, the authorities have lifted the waters from the project into the Nandi Medaram reservoir and to Laxmipur pump house. The authorities were operating two pumps and lifting 6,000 cusecs of water into the MMD through SRSP flood flow canal. The MMD, which has 4.1 tmc ft of water against its full capacity of 25.873 tmc ft, was receiving 6,000 cusecs of water through the SRSP flood flow canal. The authorities were also releasing 3,000 cusecs of water from MMD sluice canals into the LMD reservoir. The LMD has 3.5 tmc ft of water against its capacity of 24 tmc ft. The irrigation officials said that they had so far lifted about 0.5 tmc ft water into the MMD from Laxmipur pump house and were planning to operate more motors to lift more water into the MMD and LMD. After ensuring about at least 10 tmc ft of water at MMD, they were planning to lift the water to the SRSP rejuvenation project from flood flow canal. They were planning to lift the Kaleshwaram waters to the SRSP by this month end and stabilize the ayacut of the project. Quote
