Think of Caste system as similar to assembly line in a automobile company . Frame work, painting, doors, electronics , transmission etc ila various departments untayi. That's the most efficient way to run a company. If you ask 10 people to build car from start to finish it might be difficult and inefficient. 

Same way India lo kuda different functions of the society were handed down to different sections of people. It was efficient and India was the strongest economy in the world .

Down the line everything got corrupted.

If the invasions were actually successful we would have been a Muslim majority country like the ones from middle east to Pakistan or a Christian majority like the ones from Latin America . But...but...we are still a Hindu majority .
