They had outsource because of some very expensive but good projects which didn't pan put very well.

Wrong. They have outsourced because they just ape what Verizon does. DTV was a failed venture and time Warner merger was not well thought. They are cutting down expense to pay for the TW media deal.

ATT has outsourced its IT to IBM since late 90's.  During the first strategic outsourcing, IT folks within ATT were given a choice: take retirement or become employees of IBM.  Tech Mahindra would have placed a  lower than other WITCH/IBM companies.
