Yes if you pay off also it will be in records for 7 yrs since you paid off. Default cheyalem kani cheyadame better in some cases if few yrs have passed. Again depends on ones morals.

those terms are sent to credit bureau as "Customer defaulted and settled ", this is a derogatory comment and might move away potential lenders in future

I would say dont even pay that 10K and be in the same bad books as above

by the end of 7 yrs, the lender sell off the ownership to someone else as cents for dollars 

abc might sell of the ownership of the debt to xyz, xyz can hold it for 7 more yrs as they are separate legal entity, most of the cases abc it self will have subsidiaries for collections to take off from their parent company's books as charge offs

technically 7 yrs lo erase anedi myth.. not true in all cases
