Having a huge trust on karna abilities ( Archer ) Duryodhana called for a war with pandavas

Karna did not disclosed the curse he got from parusuram ( he will forget the mantra of Astra in the battle ). When Duryodhana questioned karna whether he got all needed astra's from parusuram , karnas response was yes.
