BeerBob123 Posted October 4, 2019 Report Posted October 4, 2019 An FIR has been filed on 49 celebrities who wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July, raising their concern over growing mob lynching incidents in the country. Requesting Modi to intervene and do something to bring it down, the letter started with "Criticising the ruling party doesn't imply criticising the nation. An open environment where dissent is not crushed only makes for a stronger nation". The FIR has been filed on many bigwigs like filmmakers Mani Ratnam, Anurag Kashyap, actresses Revathy and Konkana Sen, writer Ramachandra Guha, Aparana Sen and many more. The case has been registered under sections like IPC- sedition, public nuisance, hurting religious feelings, provoking breach of peace. This is because the open letter stated that 'Jai Shri ram' had become a provocative war cry and asked PM to stop using Ram in this manner. The letter further questioned Modi that criticizing lynching in parliament is not enough and he should take action against perpetrators directly. The complainant, Sudhir Kumar Ojha, an advocate, said that these celebrities are trying to tarnish the image of the country and undermine the impressive performance of the prime minister. After the open letter, 62 famous personalities like Kangana Ranaut, director Madhur Bhandarkar and many more wrote a counter letter saying that these 49 people who wrote the open letter showed selected concern and political bias.
