What are your reasons for staying awake ? Stress/late night workout that activates your body/too much drinking/ too much use of electronics/have you completely cut down carbs? / etc

 

But to answer your question there is absolutely no side effects of taking melatonin.It's a supplement and not a medicine. For normal people for someone to fall asleep your body naturally produces melatonin. In your case it's probably not enough Melatonin. Start with 5 mg first and can go up to a max of 10 mg. Try taking it before 9 pm. between 8:30-9:00 pm is best.
