I see this happen in almost every major market soon as tech becomes affordable.. developing it is easy. the hard part is conflict resolution mechanism. its a huge headache. the one I had in mind was a thoroughly decentralized model where the auto drivers get to pick their rates (not even govt mandated rates). but I didn't develop it enough. the app I had in mind will solve the auto driver's problem of lack of savaris. and hope that market will create a situation where they will be forced to reduce prices to some extent. but I soon realised what kind of problems this app could run into, with the way autos are structured in the city. each area has a few auto stands where few autodrivers run some kind of group bargaining mechanism, in that every auto you approach will quote that exact rate to the place you wanna go to. Also, the city gives out auto licenses out on a whim, which means that some of these licenses run into several lakhs, and majority of those who drive the vehicle don't own it. but this is easy to implement, and will only work if the software maintainer takes like a monthly/yearly maintenance fee (not a percentage cut) to maintain and update the servers, and this app is released as opensource. again, the problem will remain in conflict resolution. for customer complaints redressal mechanism to work, there has to be a corporation overseeing it. and that corporation is going to fleece the drivers. In the end, I convinced myself that these guys are better off leaving this business, and that no app can help them. Plus, I never had the time to follow up on my idea. I'm involved in other things. also I give up too easily. Quote

I mean each taxi has a small raspberry pi level (even smaller in size) server that runs its own aggregator service is the model I had in mind. has this been implemented? actually this can be used to even update the openstreetmaps, and do away with the asshole googlemaps. crashnburn Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 the problems of taxi drivers cannot be solved by technology unfortunately. It can only be solved if they organize in a meaningful way and talk to people like me, instead of talking to uber and ola assholes. I kept asking all the autodrivers if they have kids in college. I wish one of them gets back me, and takes my help in implementing it. and maintains it. I can't. Quote
crashnburn Posted October 18, 2019 Report Posted October 18, 2019 the problem with not even using android is, I'm kind of a novice in stuff that everyone is expert in. couple days back one of cousins asked me to send her my location on whatsapp. haha.. I had used whatsapp, but only rarely, and I couldn't find how to send the location. lol. btw, the new ubuntu touch is an amazing OS that let me install whatsapp. its android layer works. but ofcourse I'm going to delete that sh1t. I think the entire ride aggregator model is fcuked. there are opensource models that can be maintained by pvt companies, taking a subscription price per month from each auto, instead of a percentage.
