Israeli spyware used to spy on Indian journos, activists: Whatsapp confirms       

BJP allegedly used an Israeli technology, Pegasus developed by Israeli firm, NSO ( sold only to Governments ) to the conduct cyber-espionage

The software installed itself in a user's mobile phone by calling the target through WhatsApp. The spyware gained access to a person's phone even if the attacker's WhatsApp call wasn't answered. The calls also often disappeared from call logs.

In a startling WhatsApp revelation that journalists, academicians, Dalits and human rights activists, in India have been targeted for surveillance. 

Earlier WhatsApp filed a lawsuit in US federal court against Israeli technology firm NSO Group.
