It's not about publishing, even to discover something you need to have a hypothesis. Can't just do what you feel like doing no.

aced it  i leanrnt stuff from my advisor .. I just look at evrything as a textbook problem...also i dont have to wwrite proposal

i noticed i can study peoples problems and make them better in some way

Agreed .. Kani even I know some people who don’t publish anything.. but work on interesting stuff.. like finding out analytical solutions to the problems  .. instead of numerical methods..
