McConnell says he has enough GOP votes to proceed with a Senate impeachment trial

US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Tuesday he had secured enough Republican votes to run a Senate impeachment trial without a decision on whether to call additional witnesses. The move was a rejoinder to Democrats, who sought to negotiate a bipartisan agreement to have former national security adviser John Bolton and other White House officials testify in the trial.
