  • Most important – soft skills
    • They have contractors who are hard to understand or who might not understand what is being asked of them quickly so it takes extra time to explain things
    • They want to be more agile and don’t want to have to spend the extra time due to someone not seeing big picture OR because of communication gaps
    • Really want someone who has the ability and desire to make better software – not just earn a paycheck

Observations:

Communication is a big one.  If I can’t understand you without straining I tend to shut down right from the start.

When most are asked to give an example of how they utilized a tool, language, or concept in a past experience revert to giving a google definition of it.  This leads us to believe there is little to no experience behind the buzzwords.

Being asked to describe HOW they collaborate, lead, mentor, & problem solve is big.  Most cant articulate a few process steps they might go through to solve a problem, or where they see themselves in the leader-follower continuum.
