bhaigan Posted February 21, 2020 Report Posted February 21, 2020 The Andhra Pradesh state assembly is likely to adopt a resolution opposing the implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act, the most favourite legislation of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government, in the coming assembly sessions, senior YSRC leader and advisor to the government on public affairs Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said. If it happens, Andhra Pradesh would be joining other states like West Bengal, Kerala, Rajasthan and West Bengal in taking a clear stand against the CAA implementation. Telangana assembly, too, will pass a similar resolution in the budget session, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced a couple of days ago. However, Sajjala has suggested a rider to his statement. He said the YSRC government is ready to adopt a resolution in the state assembly against CAA “if necessary.” May be, he has used the words “if necessary,” just as a matter of caution, in the wake of reports that party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is getting closer to the NDA government at the Centre. Sajjala said there was no need for any apprehensions among the people about the CAA. “It is true that the YSRC had voted in favour of the CAA in parliament in the past. We expressed our opinion strongly in this regard, stating that the support was only to strengthen the national security and prevention of illegal migrations. But those days, there was no talk of implementation of NRC and NPR in the country,” he pointed out. He said the Jagan government was fully aware of the anxiety of Muslim minorities and as long as YSRC was in power, it would not allow any kind of threat to their identity. “Since it is the responsibility of the states to implement the Central laws, there is nothing to worry about any such acts in the state,” he said. 1 Quote
