Schock, who resigned in 2015 amid a funds scandal, publicly announced his sexuality on Thursday, saying that his religious upbringing and family pressure kept him from opening up about being gay. Several in the LGBTQ community found Shock's announcement difficult to embrace because of his long record of supporting anti-LGBTQ legislation.
