Not sure. I know she did contribute to music. Aameki and Bhimsen Joshi ki kalipi ichunte aipoyedi.

But I don't know if Lataji did anything of that sort other than singing in movies.  

Ravi Shankar getting it makes more sense. He won 4 Grammy awards. So, in some way he represented India on world stage.

Completely agree on each word! Got talent laga ne undi singers ki padmasri is not so fair! I mean I respect singers but I believe those kinda awards are for great inventors, writers deserve it too! Padmasri Award for bringing change in community ani na oka abhiprayam.
