AP govt begins door-to-door survey to identify foreign returnees to contain Covid-19 spread |

About 4.5 lakh volunteers and secretaries from 11,158 village secretariats and 3,786 ward secretariats are working selflessly day and night along with Asha workers and ANMs to control the spread of the virus.

As coronavirus pandemic still remains an untamed demon which, sans dimension or definition, taking a heavy toll across the world, the Andhra Pradesh government has started using a unique networking system to contain the spread of the virus in the state.

About 4.5 lakh volunteers and secretaries from 11,158 village secretariats and 3,786 ward secretariats are working selflessly day and night along with Asha workers and ANMs to control the spread of the virus.

As part of the control measures taken up by the state government, all the village volunteers have been instructed to go on surveys, check on foreign returnees and make sure every foreign returnee is home isolated.

So far, of the 1.41 crore targeted households, 1.33 crore have been covered in the survey and 12,953 foreign returnees have been traced.

Of all those identified, 2,052 have completed 28 days observation, 10,841 are still under home isolation and 60 are under hospital observation.

For more than a month, lakhs of village volunteers fanned out to identify the foreign returnees and ensure their isolation.

ANM and Asha workers have been visiting houses and taking details of any person who might have come in contact with any foreign returnee or are having any symptoms of the presence of the virus.

If they come across any suspected case, they have been asked to immediately alert the medical teams and keep them in isolation.

So far, the authorities at Visakhapatnam International Airport and seaports alone have screened 11,640 passengers.

The volunteers from villages across the state were employed by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy after he took over as the chief minister.
