The Jewish Community Center of San Francisco announced a “temporary yet indefinite” halt to most activities in a letter from CEO Marci Glazer on Monday. The letter states the center’s March 13 suspension of all in-person activities has put its financial position “into grave jeopardy.” The JCCSF is expecting revenue loss of more than $4 million between March and May, the letter states, and as a result will furlough about 70 percent of its 350-person staff starting April 4. About 100 remaining staff will take at least a 20 percent pay cut with leadership taking larger pay cuts. The JCCSF said it will continue to provide health insurance benefits through June 30 and is pursuing funding through government aid while inviting donations to its Resilience Fund. The center said it is continuing “In Place” programs including online fitness classes and live “Shabbat in Place” on Fridays.
